U.S. Stocks Open Lower as Jobless Claims Tick Higher

U.S. stocks slid Thursday as lawmakers remained gridlocked over new coronavirus relief and the number of Americans applying for jobless benefits in the latest week ticked higher.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 97 points, or 0.3%, shortly after the opening bell. The S&P 500 also dropped 0.3% and the Nasdaq Composite decline 0.1%.
